Planet Foods was founded in 1995 by Clay Gillies. His commitment to living a healthy lifestyle inspired his vision to bring healthy, nutritious foods to the mainstream consumer. Clay started by testing the waters with two products: pancake mix and gluten free pasta, to determine whether there were others who shared his desire for healthy and nutritious foods. It quickly became evident to Clay that his vision had potential.

A year later, Clay expanded his market offering to include Sheep Milk Feta Cheese, which is still with Planet Foods today. In 1997, Clay was successful in obtaining the distribution rights for Kicking Horse Coffee in Western Canada. This became the flag ship product for Clay's young company.

Planet Foods quickly became a substantial leader in the natural foods distribution industry with a portfolio that contained two of the natural markets strongest contenders: Kicking Horse Coffee and Happy Planet Juices. In 1998, Clay brought on 2 new partners: John and Gibb Stiles. From there, Tony Franco became the company's fourth partner in 2003.

Today, Planet Foods has experience in all areas of the industry and continues to grow exponentially each year by including some of the most exciting category leaders in the marketplace.

Clay, John and Tony remain active partners and are instrumental in the daily activities of Planet Foods.
