Planet Foods was founded in 1995 by Clay Gillies. Being committed to living a healthy lifestyle, Clay’s vision was to bring healthy and nutritious food to the mainstream consumer. To determine whether there were others who shared his desire for healthy and nutritious foods, Clay tested the waters with two products: pancake mix and gluten free pasta. It quickly became evident to Clay that his vision had potential.

A year later, Clay expanded his market offering to include Sheep Milk feta cheese (which is still with us today). In 1997, Clay was successful in obtaining the distribution rights for Kicking Horse Coffee in Western Canada. This quickly became the flag ship product for Planet Foods.

With a portfolio now containing two of the natural markets strongest contenders (Kicking Horse Coffee and Happy Planet Juices) Planet Foods became a substantial leader in the natural foods distribution industry. In 1998, Clay brought on 2 new partners – John and Gibb Stiles. From there Tony Franco became Planet Foods’ fourth partner in 2003. Now with experience in all areas of the industry and by including some of the most exciting category leaders in the marketplace, Planet Foods continues to grow exponentially each year.

Clay, John and Tony remain active partners today and are instrumental in the daily activities of Planet Foods.
